Scope

This standard stipulates that the hardenability of steel is determined by the end quenching test method (referred to as "end quenching method" or "Jominy method"). This standard is applicable to high-quality carbon structural steel, alloy structural steel, spring steel, some tool and die steel, bearing steel and low-hardenability structural steel; it is not applicable to air-hardened steel and very low-hardenability steel.
