Scope
This part of ISO 17225 specifies the fuel quality grades and specifications for classified non-woody pellets. This part of ISO 17225 covers only non-woody pellets made from the following raw materials (see ISO 17225-1). NOTE 1 Stem-like biomass comes from plants with a non-pulp stem that die at the end of the growing season. This includes grain or seed plants from the food producing or processing industry and their by-products, such as: B. Cereals. 3 biomass of fruits; 4 aquatic biomass; 5 defined and undefined mixtures of biomass. NOTE 2 Group 5 Defined and undefined mixtures includes defined and undefined mixtures from the main groups of solid biogenic fuels based on origin: woody biomass, stalk-like biomass, fruit biomass and aquatic biomass. Defined mixtures are intentionally mixed biogenic fuels, while undefined mixtures are randomly mixed biogenic fuels. The origin of the defined and undefined mixtures shall be described using ISO 17225-1, Table 1. If a defined or undefined mixture of solid biogenic fuels contains chemically treated material, this must be declared. NOTE 3 Thermally treated biomass pellets (e.g. torrefied pellets) are not within the scope of this part of ISO 17225. Torrefaction is a mild pretreatment of biomass at a temperature between 200 °C and 300 °C.
