Scope: This part of ISO 13935 specifies a method for determining the maximum tensile strength of seams in which the force acts perpendicular to the seam. This part of ISO 13935 describes the procedure known as grab tensile testing. NOTE ISO 13935-1 describes the procedure known as strip tensile testing. For informative references see bibliography. The method applies primarily to woven textile fabrics, including fabrics that exhibit stretch properties due to the presence of an elastomeric fiber, mechanical or chemical treatment. The process may be used on fabrics manufactured using other techniques. Typically, the process is not applicable to geotextiles, nonwovens, coated fabrics, textile fiberglass fabrics and fabrics made of carbon fibers or polyolefin fiber yarns (see literature references). By agreement between those involved, the sewn fabrics may either be taken from previously sewn ready-to-wear textiles or be made from fabric samples. This procedure only applies to straight seams, not curved seams. Only tensile testing machines with constant testing speed (CRE) can be used for this procedure.
