This International Standard specifies a method for measuring the bursting strength of cardboard by subjecting the sample to increasing hydraulic pressure. It applies to all types of cardboard (including corrugated and solid cardboard) with a burst strength range of 350 kPa to 5500 kPa. It is also applicable to paper and cardboard with a burst strength of only 250 kPa if the paper or cardboard is intended for a material with a higher burst strength, such as: B. corrugated cardboard is provided. In these cases, the measurements do not necessarily have the accuracy or precision specified for this procedure. It is therefore necessary to make an appropriate note in the test report indicating that the test produced results that were below the minimum value required by the procedure. Due to a lack of economic agreement as to which method should be used for materials with burst strengths between 350 kPa and 1400 kPa, all materials with burst strengths below 600 kPa should be tested according to ISO 2758. Exceptions to this are components made of solid cardboard and corrugated cardboard. All other materials should be tested according to this International Standard.
