EN ISO 1628-5:2015 Plastics - Determination of the viscosity of polymers in dilute solution using capillary viscometers - Part 5: Thermoplastic polyester (TP) homopolymers and copolymers
This part of ISO 1628 specifies a method for the determination of the viscosity number (also referred to as "reduced viscosity") of diluted solutions of thermoplastic polyesters (TPs) in certain specified solvents. The process is suitable for polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate (PCT) and polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), as well as for copolyesters and other polyesters specified in ISO 7792-1, which are dissolved under the specified conditions in one of the specified solvents are soluble. The viscosity number is determined according to the general method specified in ISO 1628-1, taking into account the special conditions specified in this part of ISO 1628. Determining the viscosity number of a thermoplastic polyester provides a measure of the relative molecular mass of the polymer.
