This European Standard specifies a method for assessing the performance of protective hoses or pipes against an external electric arc at either 115 V or 230 V AC 400 Hz. This standard must be used in conjunction with EN 6059-100. The main purpose of this test is to create arcs in the immediate vicinity of a protective hose or pipe in a controlled manner and to examine possible effects on the lines within this protection which are to be maintained in a safe condition. These arcs are representative of the arcs that can occur during operation if a typical wire bundle is severely damaged. In order to optimize the thickness and mass of such protection, it is necessary to assign a limit current In to each structure of protective hoses or pipes. Two values for an unaffected fault current have been established for all sizes of protective hoses/pipes.
