This standard applies to electrical and pneumatic analog chart recorders (used in industrial process control systems) that operate with standard signals that can be used in process control. It covers continuous and dotted line tracking, multi-pen and multi-channel instruments. Some tests may not apply to all instruments and additional tests may be required for some types of recorders. The purpose of this standard is to inspect electrical and pneumatic analog chart recorders and perform routine testing such as after acceptance testing or repair. It provides technical guidance for. IEC 60873-1 should be used where the overall evaluation or recorder is used under harsh conditions (e.g. high temperatures). When any test is performed, IEC 61298 should be followed whenever possible and the person performing the test should have a copy of this standard and be familiar with it. Quantitative criteria for acceptable performance should be established by agreement between the manufacturer and the user. The report on the test should make clear what tests were performed. The requirements of this standard are valid when agreed upon between the manufacturer and the user.
