This standard specifies a gas chromatography method for determining the amount of certain rosin acids in gum rosin, using capillary gas chromatography adapted to the analysis of the volatile methyl esters of these acids. This method is used for the determination of certain rosin acids in gum rosin. It is mainly used for the purpose of confirming the gum rosin present in , but is not used to quantitatively analyze gum rosin. If such analysis is required, the internal standard method specified in ASTM D 5974 should be used.
