Scope

This standard specifies a method for measuring total particulate matter in smoke generated and collected from smoking tobacco products using an automated smoking device for routine analysis and a sample preparation method for the subsequent determination of dry particulate matter, excluding nicotine. It specifies a method for classifying unknown wrappers by comparing smoking wax products made using unknown wrappers with smoking wax products made using standard wrappers. This standard specifies a method for classifying unknown wrappers, both with and without an attached filter. It specifies a method of making smoking tobacco products using and a method of measuring the amount of smoke produced by smoking smoking tobacco products made using an unattached filter and a cutting candle inserted into the inside of a wrapper.
