Scope
This standard specifies the design and operation criteria for ventilation systems in non-reactor nuclear facilities. This standard applies to all types of hot cells, particle accelerators, radiation generators, fusion devices, isotope separation and uranium enrichment plants, nuclear fuel element manufacturing plants and inspection laboratories, isotope research and production facilities, plutonium processing facilities, and spent fuel reprocessing factories, radioactive waste treatment facilities, radioactive waste storage facilities, etc. The function of ventilation and containment systems is to ensure the safe operation of the above nuclear facilities and protect operators, the public and the environment from the spread of radioactive contamination caused by the operation of these facilities. This standard does not apply to the main containment vessels of nuclear power plants and certain types of research reactors. These facilities will produce high-pressure conditions during accidents. However, this standard applies to auxiliary buildings of these facilities.
