This standard specifies the general methods for inspecting defects in welds and heat-affected zones, determining the position, size and evaluation of defects, and grading methods for flaw detection results. This standard is applicable to the manual ultrasonic inspection of butt welds of ferritic steel with full penetration fusion welding with a base metal thickness of not less than 8 mm by pulse reflection method. This standard does not apply to welds of cast steel and austenitic stainless steel; butt welds of steel pipes with an outer diameter of less than 159 mm; fillet welds of pipe seats with an inner diameter of less than or equal to 200 mm; welds.
