Scope: This standard specifies the terms and definitions, test equipment, sample preparation, equipment calibration, test procedures, result expression and test report for the determination of thermal decomposition temperature of friction materials. This standard is applicable to the determination of the decomposition temperature and decomposition rate of dry friction materials, and is also applicable to the determination of the content of volatiles, additives and/or fillers contained in friction materials. The raw materials for friction materials can be used by reference. This standard applies to thermogravimetric measurements in dynamic mode (mass change with temperature or time under program conditions) or isothermal mode (mass change with time at constant temperature).
