Scope
This International Standard specifies techniques for archiving electronic data to ensure their integrity, accessibility, usability, readability and reliability over time, in order to protect the evidentiary value of the data. In this standard, the meaning of long-term is to last for more than 100 years (see GB/T 18444-2001). This standard uses black and white microforms processed with chemical liquid. This method was chosen because the results are always irreversible records and the quality of the microforms is proven as a medium for long-term preservation. This standard also specifies methods for recording COM and COLD outputs in parallel from the same data by one production unit. This standard applies to many different types of electronic data, such as text data and two-dimensional graphic data that can be expressed in black and white images. This standard does not apply to: - animated images or sound; - three-dimensional images; - grayscale or color images; - X-ray images. Microforms produced by heat treatment are not included in the scope of this standard because they do not provide sufficient guarantees of inalterability and long-term durability.
