This part specifies the terms and definitions, technical requirements and tests of various types of RCBO. This section applies to AC rated frequency 50 Hz, 60 Hz or 50/60 Hz, rated voltage not exceeding 440 V, rated current not exceeding 125 A, rated short-circuit capacity not exceeding 25000 A (at 50 Hz or 60 Hz), Residual current operated circuit breakers with overcurrent protection (hereinafter referred to as RCBO) for household or similar purposes whose operating function is independent or related to the power supply voltage. RCBO is used to protect people from indirect contact. At this time, the exposed conductive parts of the equipment should be connected to a suitable earth electrode. RCBO can also be used for overcurrent protection of buildings and line equipment for similar purposes, and can also provide protection for fire hazards caused by continuous ground fault currents due to the failure of overcurrent protection devices. The RCBO whose rated residual operating current does not exceed 30 mA can also be used as a supplementary protection measure when other electric shock protection measures fail. This section applies to devices that can simultaneously detect residual current, compare the residual current value with the residual operating current value, and disconnect the protected circuit when the residual current exceeds this value. The device can also switch on, carry and break overcurrent under specified conditions. RCBOs are intended for use in pollution degree 2 environments. The general type RCBO is resistant to nuisance tripping, which means that the surge voltage (generated by operating transient overvoltage or lightning induction) generates load current in the equipment without flashover. S-type RCBO has sufficient resistance to mis-tripping even when surge voltage causes flashover and generates freewheeling. RCBO is suitable for isolation purposes. Except for RCBOs with uninterruptible neutrals, RCBOs complying with this standard are applicable to IT systems. When the power side is prone to excessive overvoltage (for example, the power is introduced through overhead lines), special protective measures can be taken (for example: using lightning arresters) (see GB 16895.12).
