This standard specifies the content and appearance description of image resources (including all native and derived image resources), and provides general methods for locating and managing image resources. This standard is applicable to describing image resources in digital form, and can also be used to describe image resources in other carrier forms. Rubbings, maps (atlases) and ancient document image resources should be subject to separate special metadata specifications and are not covered by this standard. This standard is mainly used by cultural information institutions. It can be adopted directly or after revision in other information resource fields, but its revision must follow the basic principles and expansion principles of this standard.
