This International Standard specifies the technical requirements for metallic and other inorganic coatings in order to develop uniform technical standards and to establish a standardized structure for the designation of coatings. It applies to International Standards for coatings produced by electrolytic (galvanic) and autocatalytic metal deposition and vapor deposition processes. This International Standard does not provide detailed requirements for individual coatings, but these can be found in the International Standards listed in the references. This international standard does not apply to coatings produced by thermal spraying and enameling. This International Standard does not need to be specified in technical standards, product specifications, contracts, orders or technical drawings because reference to a "method of specification" in these documents is not contractually binding.
