This part of ISO 9606 specifies the requirements for welding testing for fusion welding of steels. It establishes a series of technical rules for the systematic testing of welders, thereby enabling such qualifications to be uniformly accepted regardless of the type of product, location and examiner/testing body. When welders are qualified, the focus is on the welder's ability to handle the electrode holder/gun/torch to produce a weld of acceptable quality. The welding processes according to this part of ISO 9606 only include those fusion welding processes that are referred to as hand welding or semi-mechanical welding. They do not include fully mechanical and automatic welding processes. NOTE For such procedures see ISO 14732 [10].
