This standard specifies the method for the determination of water absorption of fiber reinforced plastics under specified dimensions, temperature and immersion time. This standard applies to the determination of the water absorption of fiber reinforced plastics, and the results are only for comparison purposes, not to indicate the maximum water absorption that may be absorbed. Only specimens of the same size and in the same physical state as possible can be compared for water absorption. The immersion temperature of the two methods specified in this standard is 23°C and boiling water temperature respectively. Fiber-reinforced plastics that soften at boiling water temperatures and lose their original shape can only be tested at 23°C. Note: During the arbitration test, the boiling water temperature is limited to 100°C.
