This part of YY/T 0873 is used to clarify the digital coding system for dental rotary instruments and their accessories, and to give instructions on their interpretation and usage. This section will detail the coding system for several types of materials, including the working part of the instrument, the combination of coatings and abrasive instruments. The 3-digit number in this part is the first group of numbers in the 15-digit coding system. This section further describes the bore diameter of the rod/handle or stand-alone instrument, as well as the coded number for the overall length. The 3 digits here form the second group of the 15-digit code, and there are 3 digits in total (2+1). Appendix A gives several examples that demonstrate the complete application of the 15-digit coded number, some of which include examples of three (additional) optional numbers (16 to 18 digits) provided for diamond instruments.
