Scope
This standard provides guidance for dynamic tests and inspections of bridges and viaducts: -- classifies tests by construction and use; -- provides guidance for types of control and inspections of components and full bridge structures; -- lists the equipment required for excitation and measurement ;-- Classify detection techniques by corresponding methods for signal processing, data description and reporting. This standard provides general guidelines for dynamic testing. The information on structural dynamic characteristics generated by the test can be used as the basis for condition monitoring or system identification. The dynamic tests described in this standard are not a substitute for static tests. The test should try to detail all the dynamic characteristics (ie, frequency, stiffness, mode shape and damping) of each vibration mode under test and the non-linear variation of its motion amplitude as far as possible. This standard is applicable to highway bridges, railway bridges, pedestrian bridges and viaducts (including construction and operation phases) and other projects (or other project types), providing guarantees for their application in specific structures. When this standard is applied to a special structure (cable-stayed bridge or suspension bridge), specific tests shall be carried out according to its engineering characteristics.
