This standard applies to: a. The depth of the hardened layer of induction hardening or flame hardening is greater than 0.3mm. b. After surface quenching, the hardness at three times the effective hardened layer depth (DS) from the surface must be lower than the ultimate hardness (HVHL) minus 100. If this condition cannot be met, it may be stipulated that a higher ultimate hardness value shall be used to determine the effective hardened layer depth after the agreement of the parties concerned.
