Scope: This standard specifies a method for the simultaneous determination of the dynamic vis osity (η) and density (ρ) of transparent and opaque liquid petroleum products and crude oil. Kinematic vis osity (υ) can be obtained by dividing dynamic vis osity (η) by density at the same temperature (ρ). This standard applies to the determination of dynamic vis osity and density of transparent and opaque liquid petroleum products and crude oil and the calculation of kinematic vis osity. The test results of this standard depend on the nature of the sample and are applicable to liquids in which shear stress and shear rate are proportional (i.e. Newtonian fluids). This standard only examines the precis on of the base oil. When the temperature is 40°C, the dynamic vis osity range of the sample is 2.05mPa·s ~ 456mPa·s; when the temperature is 100°C, the dynamic vis osity range of the sample is 0.83mPa·s ~ 31.6mPa · s; when the temperature is 15°C, the sample density range is 0.82 g/cm ~ 0.92g/cm (see 15.4). This standard may also be applied to the determination of sample types, vis osity, density and temperature conditions beyond the above, but the precis on and bias of Chapter 15 may not apply.
