This part of GB/T 18449 specifies the inspection and calibration methods of the Knoop hardness tester (hereinafter referred to as the hardness tester) for the determination of the Knoop hardness of metallic materials according to GB/T 18449.1-2009. The test force ranges from 0.09807N to 19.614N. This section applies only to indentations with a long diagonal not less than 0.020 mm in length. This part applies to the direct test method for checking the basic functions of the hardness tester and the indirect test method for checking the comprehensive performance of the hardness tester. The indirect test method can be used independently for regular routine inspection of hardness testers in use. If the hardness tester is also used for hardness testing by other methods, the hardness tester shall be tested separately according to each method.
