Scope: This standard specifies the performance parameters and inspection methods of mechanical impact testing machines (hereinafter referred to as impact machines), and gives guidelines for describing the characteristics of impact machines. This standard is intended to provide potential customers with a detailed description of the characteristics of impact machines and also gives guidelines for the selection of impact machines. This standard applies to shock machines used for verification and assessment of the effects of typical shock conditions in the working environment specified in the relevant parts of IEC 60068, and also applies to shock machines used for diagnostic tests. The purpose of the impact test is to discover weak links in the machinery and/or to find out the reason for the degradation of the specified performance. This standard can also be used to determine the soundness of the test sample structure or as a method of quality control. This standard does not apply to impact equipment used to simulate earthquakes, acoustic shocks, explosions and implosions, rupture tests, and metal processing and forming processes. This International Standard discusses various techniques for producing the desired impact motion. These techniques can be implemented with either a single shock pulse or compound transients. The simulation of the transient shock process can be realized by controlling the test with the specified shock response spectrum.
