- Scope
- This standard specifies the minimum requirements for detecting surface and near-surface dis ontinuities of ferromagnetic materials and components used in civil aircraft using magnetic particle testing. This standard is applicable to the use of magnetic particle testing methods to inspect ferromagnetic materials and finis ed products used in civil aircraft, including raw materials, blanks, finis ed and semi-finis ed products, welded parts and in-service parts for surface and near-surface cracks, folds, hairlines, inclusions and others dis ontinuity. See Appendix A for material suitability for magnetic particle testing. This standard is not suitable for testing non-ferromagnetic materials, such as austenitic stainless steel.
