1.1 This standard applies to the operation or control of electrical equipment and other devices for domestic or similar purposes, with a rated voltage of 440 V or less and a rated current of 63 A or less, that are operated by hand, foot or other human action. Specifies switches for mechanical or electronic devices. These switches are intended to be operated by humans via actuators or by operation of detection units. The actuator or detection unit may be integrated with the switch or may be physically or electrically separated from the switch. Or it may include converting a signal such as temperature. Switches that incorporate additional control functions managed by the switch function are within the scope of the standard. Furthermore, the operation of the actuator or the detection unit includes indirect operation of a switch, such as by a remote control, a device or part of a device, such as a door. Notes: 1. Electronic switches may be combined with mechanical switches that provide complete or micro-blocking. 2. Electronic switches without mechanical switches in power supply circuits provide only electronic disconnection. Therefore, the load-side circuit is always considered a live part. 3. Additional requirements may be necessary for switches used in tropical climates. 4. Please note that equipment standards may include additional or alternative requirements for switches. 5. Throughout this International Standard, the term “equipment” means “equipment or equipment”. 6. Part 1 of JIS C 4526 applies to the testing of built-in switches.
