Scope
This standard specifies the method for absolute calibration of acoustic emission transducers. Its purpose is to establish a unified standard for acoustic emission detection, establish a basis for data correlation, and provide explanations for different detection results (obtained at different times and different locations). An acceptable method must be specified for describing the performance of acoustic emission transducers. This standard establishes a set of primary calibration methods for acoustic emission transducers coupled on the surface of solid media to receive elastic waves. Calibration is the response of the transducer to the frequency of the sound waves that are often received in acoustic emission testing. The voltage response of the transducer is determined in discrete frequency intervals of approximately 10 kHz to 1 MHz. The input is a known dynamic displacement on the coupling surface. Calibration units are output voltage per mechanical input (displacement, velocity, acceleration). This standard applies to the calibration of secondary standard transducers and transducers for pre-testing.
