Scope
This SAE Recommended Practice provides guidance defining the hydraulic system requirements and forpreparing a detailed specification for a pumping component. The user can follow this document to setforth the pump environmental and performance considerations, establish service life and reliability goals, and define specific evaluation tests in order to qualify it for advanced marine vehicle applications.1.1 PurposeThe application of aerospace technology to marine vehicle systems has generated the need for morerigorous system designs and detailed specifications of components. This Recommended Practice isintended to aid in the system design process and in the preparation of a specification for a hydraulicpump to be used on advanced surface craft and submersible vehicles.1.2 Rationale1.2.1 CHANGES IN THIS REVISIONThis document has been extensively revised and changed from an information report to a recommendedpractice. Many military specifications and standards have been deleted or replaced with industrystandards. Several new references have been added. Because of the extent of the revisions it isimpractical to list each individual change.1.2.2 RELATIONSHIP OF SAE STANDARD TO ISO STANDARDNo equivalent ISO document exists.
