Scope
This part of GB/T 26647 provides guidance for the selection and operation of particle size determination devices, which determine particle size and particle number by measuring the interaction of light with individual particles in the gas phase or in the liquid phase. The measured particle size is the optical equivalent particle size, which is equivalent to the particle size of the standard particle when the measurement system makes the same response. This definition requires the calibration of the particle sizer using standard particles of known particle size. This section applies to particles ranging in diameter from about 0.05 microns to a few millimeters. Airborne particles in the range of about 0.05 μm to 20 μm are mainly determined by the light scattering method. Larger particles can be detected by light subtraction sensors. For liquid-borne particles, particles with sizes ranging from 0.05 microns to several microns can be determined by light scattering. Particles in the 1 micron to millimeter scale range are determined by light subtraction. The scale range that any particle size analyzer can measure is usually close to 100:1. When the particles that are about 100 times larger than the smallest particle size are measured with good resolution, the results obtained are greater than or equal to the threshold scale of the largest scale channel of the instrument. This section considers the changes in the collection light flux response caused by the presence of individual particles in the photosensitive area of the particle size analyzer. For this reason, instruments that rely on the interaction of light with particles to generate data that only indicate the degree of particle motion are not discussed in this section.
