This standard specifies the conditions and methods to be followed for the exposure of metals and alloys to surface seawater in order to allow meaningful comparisons of exposures at different locations. This standard applies to exposures ranging from significant zones of moisture above the water level (splash and tidal zones) to depths below the water level that approximate the composition of surface seawater. This standard specifies the assessment method for the corrosion of metals and alloys by seawater. Due to the variability and complexity of seawater, in order to reduce the influence of variable factors, the exposure time should be more than one year.
