Scope
This standard specifies the method for determining the apparent vis osity of engine oil in use at low temperatures or engine oil containing soot. A shear rate of approximately 0.2 s occurs when the shear stress is below 200 Pa. In the temperature range of -5°C to -40°C, the sample is cooled at a rate of 3°C/h, while its apparent vis osity is continuously measured. The results measured in this standard are vis osity, maximum vis osity growth rate (gel index) and gel index temperature. The applicability of this standard to petroleum products other than engine oils has not been determined. This standard does not provide advice on all safety is ues related to use. Therefore, users should establis appropriate safety and protection measures and develop corresponding management systems before using this standard. This standard uses International System of Units [SI] units.
