- Scope
- This standard provides guidance and rules (including the preparation of test reports) for operating performance tests (including mechanical characteristics) and displacement tests of pressure relief devices. Pressure relief devices are used to prevent overpressure of boilers, pressure vessels and related piping equipment, and these tests are used to determine the operating performance and displacement of pressure relief devices. The test procedure of this standard has a variety of inlet and outlet conditions, and the test medium is to use steam, gas (air) or liquid (water) whose physical properties are known. This standard applies to the following types of reclosing and non-reclosing pressure relief devices: a) safety valves; b) rupture disc devices; c) snap/shear pin devices; d) fusible plug devices. The parties involved in the test agree to accept the terms of this standard, which may also apply to other pressure relief devices.
