This standard specifies the performance requirements for electronic thermometers for continuous measurement. This standard applies to equipment driven by electricity, whether powered by mains power or an internal power supply. This equipment can be equipped with additional indicating devices, printing devices and other auxiliary devices. The requirements for these accessories are outside the scope of this standard. Thermometers intended for use in measuring skin temperature are outside the scope of this standard. This standard is not intended to exclude the suitability of devices based on other measurement principles which achieve equivalent performance in the continuous measurement of human body temperature. Note: Equipment may contain some features that apply to different parts of EN 12470 (see Appendix A). In this case, it is the manufacturer's responsibility to indicate which functions apply to which parts of EN 12470. For example: an electronic thermometer with maximum temperature memory and replaceable temperature probes.
