This standard provides metallographic microscopic pictures of the microstructure designations of α+β titanium alloy rods for external implants. This standard applies to rods with a diameter or equivalent diameter not exceeding 100mm. The microstructure catalog is used to help establish relationships between common microstructure types in α+β titanium alloy rods. Microstructures are named based on their morphological appearance. The actual microstructure may also be a combination of several microstructures. This standard does not include requirements for specialized microstructures. This catalog includes pictures of ideal and unideal microstructures that may appear during the processing of α+β titanium alloy rods. The selection of acceptable microstructure should take into account the implant use and relevant material standards.
