Scope

This standard specifies the general requirements for military software development, including requirements for basic activities, support activities and management activities of software development. This standard applies to the acquisition, development and maintenance of military software (including software in firmware) by the acquirer and the developer. There are two types of "systems" involved in this standard: one is a hardware-software system (such as a radar system), for which this standard only applies to the software elements in the system: one is a software system (such as A geographic information system), for such systems, this standard applies to the entire system.
