Scope
This procedure is applicable to the initial calibration, follow-up calibration and in-use inspection of acoustic or acousto-optical strong penetrating X and gamma radiation personal dose equivalent rate alarms worn on the human body. The energy range of X and γ radiation is 50 keV ~ 1.5 MeV. If the alarm is to be used to measure the dose equivalent rate produced by photons of higher energy (up to 10 MeV), then its response must be determined at the appropriate energy. This procedure does not apply to the verification of alarm devices with a personal dose equivalent rate of Hp (0.07) for weak penetrating X and γ radiation. This procedure does not apply to the verification of personal alarms for neutron and beta radiation.
