This standard specifies the performance requirements for rescue devices installed on earthmoving machines as defined in JIS A 8308. The requirements for verification tests to be conducted as necessary are also met. Research has shown that the tow ropes used to rescue large earthmoving machines stuck in mud are rarely thicker than 40 mm diameter wire rope. This is approximately the largest size that a person can handle to attach a tow rope to a machine. Therefore, this standard is applicable to mechanically mounted rescue devices with a capacity not exceeding 106N. This value corresponds to the minimum breaking force for 40 mm diameter steel wire rope group 3 specified in JIS C 7301.
