Scope
This standard specifies the method for determining the fluidity of melts under shear stress under the shear rate and temperature conditions of plastic processing technology. Since the fluidity of plastic melts depends not only on temperature but also on other parameters, especially shear stress and shear rate, it is necessary to establish this method. This standard applies to the determination of the melt viscosity in the range of 10Pa•s~107Pa•s, which depends on the measurement range of the pressure and (or) force sensor and the mechanical and physical properties of the rheometer. The shear rate produced by the rheometer ranges from 1/sˉ1 to 10>6/s. The stretching effect at the die entrance causes extrusion swell at the die exit, and this standard also includes methods for assessing extrusion swell. The rheological testing techniques covered in this standard are not limited to the characterization of wall-adhering thermoplastics, but can also be applied to the characterization of thermoset plastics. This standard is not applicable to the determination of shear rate and shear viscosity of non-wall-adhered materials, but it can be used to express the rheological behavior of the entire fluid in a flow channel with a certain geometric shape.
