Scope

This part of GB 12476 specifies the determination method for the minimum ignition energy required for the mixture of dust and air to be ignited by a high-voltage direct current electric spark. This test method is intended to develop data for determining the ability of electrical discharges to ignite combustible dust-air mixtures. The state of the tested dust (particle size, moisture content, etc.) should represent the actual use state, so that the actual hazard can be assessed. The ignition energy determined by this method can be compared with the ignition energy of other dusts to assess the corresponding ignition hazard caused by electrical or electrostatic discharge, so as to determine whether electrical equipment is suitable for installation in places where combustible dust exists. This test method is not applicable to recognized explosives, black powder, dynamite, explosives which burn without oxygen, pyrophoric substances, or substances which behave in a similar manner under certain conditions, or mixtures of these substances. If a hazard is suspected due to its explosive properties, a small amount of the above dust can be placed on the heating surface of the equipment described in GB 12476.8-2010. Heat to 400°C to get index.
