Scope
1 This Standard sets out procedures for the assessment of noise for compliance with noise limits, and provides guidance on the setting of noise limits. It shall be read in conjunction with NZS 6801:1999. 2 This Standard shall not be applied to assessment of sound where the source is within the scope of, and subject to, the application of other New Zealand acoustical Standards, except as provided for in 1.3 or 1.4. In particular, assessment of specific sources including transportation, construction, port noise, wind turbines, and impulsive sound (such as gunfire and blasting), requires special techniques that generally are outside the scope of this Standard. This Standard covers airborne sound but does not cover structure borne sound (vibration). 3 Where another acoustics Standard refers to assessment methods or guideline noise limits, the relevant provisions and methods from this Standard may be applied to the extent required for the purposes of the other Standard. 4 Where sound from transportation or construction activity is part of the ongoing sound emission from a land use activity, it may be assessed using this Standard.
