This part of SABS 0264 covers the development of operational plans for specific hazards identified in the risk assessment process (see SABS 0264-1) as a high priority hazard. The standard covers planning requirements for three of the most frequently recurring hazards in South Africa: a) floods and dam failure, b) hurricanes and storm winds; and c) dangerous goods incidents. 2 The format and principles adopted in the plans covered in this part of SABS 0264 could also be used as guidelines for hazard-specific response plans for other hazards. Examples of other candidate hazard-specific response plans are: a) earthquakes - in districts where geological fault-lines have been identified; b) radiological hazards - in areas near nuclear installations; c) maritime incidents; and d) aviation incidents.
