This International Standard establishes a code for the identification of covered electrodes by means of symbols related to the chemical composition of the deposited weld metal and type of covering.
It deals only with covered electrodes for manual arc welding of stainless and other similar high alloy steels.
The purpose of the codification is to facilitate mutual understanding among people dealing with welding in the various countries by identifying electrodes according to certain rules.
