This standard covers the requirements for the design, manufacture, use and maintenance of refillable gas containers of sizes 0,5 L to 3 000 L water capacity.
2 In addition to industrial, medical and domestic type gas cylinders, the standard also covers cylinders for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) and self-contained surface breathing apparatus (SCBA).
3 It also covers the design and manufacture of containers used for portable fire extinguishers, but does not include requirements for their performance (see SABS 1572, SABS 1567 and SABS 1739).
4 It does not cover special gas containers as used in aircraft, disposable gas containers and airbrake reservoirs.
