This standard specifies the methods for identifying fire hazards caused by machinery and conducting corresponding risk assessments, and provides the basic concepts and methods of technical fire prevention and control measures that need to be taken during the design and manufacture of machinery. The main purpose of this standard is to achieve the required level of safety, according to the intended use of the machinery, by taking technical measures which are mainly integrated in the machinery and which are achieved by preferentially using safety components. This standard does not apply to machinery containing a controlled combustion process (for example: internal combustion engines, boilers), unless the combustion process may constitute a source of ignition in other parts of the machinery or outside the machine.
