Scope
Geography Markup Language (GML) is an XML encoding consistent with ISO 19118 for the transmission and storage of geographic information modeled in the conceptual model framework adopted in the ISO 19100 series of international standards, including the spatial and non-spatial properties of geographic features. This standard defines XML schema (Schema) syntax, mechanisms and conventions: ——Provide an open, business-independent framework for describing geospatial application schemas, used to transmit and store geographic information in XML form; ——Allow proprietary standards Supports an appropriate subset of the description capabilities of the GML framework; — supports the description of geospatial application schemas for specific domains and information communities; — can create and maintain linked geographic application schemas and datasets; — supports application schemas and datasets storage and transmission; - improving organizational capabilities for sharing geographic application schemas and the information they describe. Implementers may decide to store geographic application schema and information in GML, or convert from other storage formats as needed, and use GML only for schema and data transfer.
