- Scope
- This standard specifies the classification of the structural type, installation type and junction box location of rotating electrical machines - IM code. Two classification methods are specified as follows: Code 1 (see Chapter 2): Alphanumeric code applies to motors with end-cover bearings and a shaft extension. Code 2 (see Chapter 3): The all-numeric code is applicable to a wider range of motor types, including the motor types involved in code 1. Motor types not listed in code 2 should be fully described in text. The relationship between code 1 and code 2 is shown in Appendix A (informative appendix).
