This standard gives the rules for an international coding system for lamps and covers all categories of lamps, except lamps for motor vehicles. This standard specifies the coding of the main types of lamps; other types of lamps shall be coded in accordance with the applicable revision of this standard. The purpose of the international coding system for lamps is to: ——improve the transfer of information about different types of lamps; ——facilitate discussions on the interchangeability of products; ——create a closer relationship between international standards and manufacturers' documentation relationship (for example, coding can be given in the relevant chapters of a standard in the future); ——to make it possible to replace lamps correctly; ——to be used as supplementary markings on lamps; ——to replace national and regional coding systems.
