Scope

Recommendation ITU-T T.55 recommends that for the representation, transmission, interchange, processing, storage, and presentation of written form of the languages of the world, as well as additional symbols, the universal multiple-octet coded character set (UCS) specified in ISO/IEC 10646 be used.
