This part of GB/T 12164 specifies the requirements for the beta reference radiation field produced by radionuclide sources. Examples of the properties of these radionuclides and suitable source configurations are given, and methods for measuring the maximum residual energy of beta particles and the dose equivalent rate at a depth of 0.07 mm in an ICRU sphere are described. The energy range is 66keV--3.6Mev, and the metering equivalent rate ranges from about 10µSv.h1 to at least 10Sv.h1. In addition, the variation of the dose equivalent rate of some sources with the angle of incidence is given. This section applies to the calibration of personal and site dose (rate) instruments for determining Hp(0.07) and H'(0.07), and the determination of their energy response and angular response. This part of GB/T 12164 recommends two series of beta reference radiation fields from which to select the radiation required to characterize the instrument (calibration and determination of energy and angular response).
