EN ISO 15732:2005 Fine ceramics (advanced ceramics, advanced technical ceramics) - Test method for fracture toughness of monolithic ceramics at room temperature by single edge precracked beam (SEPB) method
This International Standard specifies a test method for determining the fracture toughness of monolithic ceramic materials, carried out at room temperature on one-sided notched bending specimens (SEPB method). This International Standard is intended for application to monolithic ceramics and whisker-reinforced ceramics that are considered macroscopically homogeneous. Ceramic composite materials with continuous fiber reinforcement are not covered. This International Standard is applicable for the development of these ceramic materials, for comparisons between ceramic materials, for quality assurance, for descriptions, for the reliability and design of the data obtained. Fracture toughness values determined by other test methods cannot be substituted for the fracture toughness value Klpb defined in this International Standard, and they may not be interchangeable at all. The values given in this International Standard correspond to the International System of Units (SI).
